Our Best Local Secrets: Hidden Gems in Skiathos: Avoiding the Crowds

Krifi Ammos beach

Welcome to our little paradise at Aphrodite Skiathos! While we love being right on the beautiful Megali Ammos beach, we know that sometimes you want to find a quiet corner all to yourself.

We’ve put together a few of our favorite “hush-hush” spots that are easy to reach. You don’t need hiking boots or special gear—just your flip-flops, some water, and a sense of adventure.

Wait, There Are Trails? How to Find Them
You might be surprised to learn that Skiathos is actually one of the best-organized islands in Greece for walking! There are about 25 marked trails covering over 200 kilometers of the island.

If you’re wondering how to find them, it’s much easier than you think. You’ll see color-coded signs and wooden arrows all over the island, often near bus stops or main roads. But the best way to explore is to download the official Skiathos Trails app on your phone. It works offline and shows you exactly where you are on the path. You can also find the routes on the Outdooractive app.

  • Lake and Sea (Trail 3): This is a perfect example of an “easy” gem. It’s a flat, circular walk around the Agios Georgios wetland that takes about 30 minutes. It’s peaceful, great for a light stroll, and you might even see some rare birds or swans.

The Easy-to-Reach “Hidden” Beaches
You don’t have to climb mountains to find a quiet shore. These spots are just a short trip away:

  • Maratha Beach: Tucked right next to the famous Koukounaries, Maratha is its much quieter neighbor. It’s just a quick walk down about 30 steps from the road.
  • Krifi Ammos (Hidden Sand): This small cove is sheltered by green hills and feels like a secret world. You can drive there in about 30 minutes from town and follow a short, simple path down to the water.
  • Xanemos Beach: Located right at the end of the airport runway, this beach has cool, deep water and a very relaxed vibe. It’s a fun place to watch the planes come in low while you enjoy the peace away from the big resorts.

A Tropical Escape: Tsougrias Island
If you really want to feel like you’ve escaped the world, you must visit Tsougrias. It is a tiny, uninhabited island right across from Skiathos Town.

Getting there is easy—small boats leave the port throughout the day to take you across. Once you land, you’ll find crystal-clear turquoise water and soft sand that feels almost tropical. There are even some gentle forest trails on the islet if you want to walk through the pine trees and find a completely empty stretch of sand.

We hope these tips help you see a different side of our beautiful island.
