Welcome to Skiathos! If you are dreaming of pine-scented air, water so blue it looks like paint, and a town that feels like a warm embrace, you have found the right place. Here at Aphrodite Skiathos, we see the magic of this island every day from our balconies at Megali Ammos beach, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
The big question every newcomer asks is: “How many days is enough in Skiathos?”
While you can see the “greatest hits” in three or four days, the real secret of the island is that it has a way of pulling you back. We have a very special community here called the “Boomerangers”—these are friends from all over the world who fell in love with Skiathos once and now return every single year, sometimes for decades. They come for the “quality of light,” the unchanging menus at their favorite tavernas, and the island’s “extrovert personality” that makes it so easy to forge lifelong friendships.
For your first visit, we believe 7 days is the perfect baseline to move beyond the surface and truly feel the rhythm of island life.
Your Perfect 7-Day Newcomer Plan
Day 1: Get Lost in the Magic of Chora
Start your journey in Skiathos Town (Chora). Wander the narrow, bougainvillea-draped alleys of the “Plakes” district and visit the Bourtzi—the pine-covered peninsula that separates the two ports. End your day watching the sunset from the clock tower at Agios Nikolaos Church for the best view of the town.
Day 2: The Legend of Koukounaries
Head to the world-famous Koukounaries Beach. Enjoy the velvet golden sand and the natural shade of the pine forest. Take a short walk behind the beach to see the Strofilia lagoon, where you might even spot white and black swans. Catch the sunset at nearby Agia Eleni beach—it’s a local ritual.
Day 3: A Nautical Pilgrimage to Lalaria
You haven’t truly seen Skiathos until you’ve seen it from the sea. Hop on a boat tour to Lalaria Beach, famous for its pearly-white pebbles and hollow rock formation. Explore the nearby Blue Caves and the medieval ruins of Kastro, perched high on a cliff to protect locals from ancient pirates.
Day 4: Spiritual Heights and Local Wine
Visit the Evangelistria Monastery, a peaceful spot in the hills where the first modern Greek flag was sewn. Afterward, stop by Parissis Winery—the only commercial winery on the island—for a tasting of local varietals with a stunning view of the Aegean.
Day 5: The “Wild” Side of the North
Rent a car or scooter and head to the northern coast. Walk through the shaded Mandraki Forest to reach the wide, sandy dunes of Mandraki or Elias beach. This is the “Robinson Crusoe” side of the island—raw, quiet, and authentic.
Day 6: Islet Hopping to Tsougria
Take a water taxi from the Old Port to the uninhabited islet of Tsougria. It feels like a tropical paradise with crystal-clear water and a tiny church called Agios Floros. It’s the perfect place for one last day of deep relaxation.
Day 7: Literary Soul and Souvenirs
On your final day, visit the humble home of Alexandros Papadiamantis, Greece’s famous “prose poet”. Stroll down Papadiamanti Street to pick up local honey, olive oil soap, and “chaimali” (a traditional almond sweet). Finish with a farewell dinner at a courtyard restaurant like Marmita to celebrate your first week as a future Boomeranger.
Why Stay at Megali Ammos?
Staying with us at Aphrodite Skiathos means you are right on the beach, but also just a 15-minute walk from the energy of the town. It’s the best of both worlds—you can hear the waves lapping at night and still be close to the morning bakeries and the evening fun.
So, is 7 days enough? It’s enough to make you fall in love—but we have a feeling we’ll be seeing you again next year!
