Chasing the Golden Hour: Best Viewpoints and Sunset Spots in Skiathos, Photography and scenic locations

Megali Ammos sunrise

Hello from sunny Megali Ammos! If you are staying with us at Aphrodite Skiathos, you already know that the “made of summer” feeling starts the moment you step onto your balcony and see the Aegean Sea right at your feet.

But we know you also want to explore. Whether you are a professional with a big camera or just someone who loves taking beautiful photos on their phone, Skiathos is a dream. You don’t need fancy gear or a tripod to capture the magic—just a bit of timing and the right location.

Here are our favorite spots for the Best Viewpoints and Sunset Spots in Skiathos, Photography and scenic locations.

1. Agia Eleni: The Sunset Queen
Ask any local where to see the best sunset, and they will point you west to Agia Eleni Beach. It’s an easy trip—just take the bus to stop 25 and walk for about 20 minutes. As the sun dips behind the mountains of the Greek mainland, the sky turns into a painting of orange and purple.

  • Photo Tip: Use the pine trees on the shore to “frame” your shot. It adds a beautiful, natural touch to your sunset pictures.

2. Agios Nikolaos Church & Clock Tower
For the most famous “postcard” view of Skiathos Town, you have to walk up to Agios Nikolaos. The walk through the narrow, flower-filled streets is just as pretty as the destination. Once you reach the top, you get a 360-degree view of the red-tiled roofs and the harbor.

  • Photo Tip: Go in the late afternoon. The white buildings of the town reflect the light beautifully, making everything look like it’s glowing.

3. The Bourtzi Peninsula
Right between the old and new ports is the Bourtzi, a small green peninsula with old castle ruins. It’s perfect if you want a scenic view without leaving the town. You can sit on the seawall and watch the traditional fishing boats come in while the town lights start to flicker on at dusk.

4. Planespotting (The Adrenaline Shot)
Skiathos is famous for its airport because the planes fly incredibly low over the beach!. It is known as the “Sint Maarten of Europe”. From the port, it’s just a short 8-minute walk to the southern end of the runway (near stop 0).

  • Safety Tip: It’s an amazing photo, but stay a safe distance from the “jet blast”—it’s very powerful!.

5. Agios Alexandros: The Hidden North Coast Gem
For a taste of the wilder, northern side of the island, make a trip to the Agios Alexandros Chapel. Unlike the town’s red roofs, this little chapel has a bright white, curved design that looks like something from the Cyclades. It sits on a high ridge and offers some of the most breathtaking views of the northern cliffs and the medieval ruins of Kastro.

  • Photo Tip: The contrast between the blue sea and the white walls of the chapel is perfect for a quick phone photo. You can reach it easily by car or by an easy walk through beautiful olive groves.

6. Lalaria Beach: The Natural Icon
You can only get here by boat, but Lalaria is a must-see. It’s famous for its white pebbles and the “Tripia Petra,” a natural rock arch that rises out of the turquoise water.

  • Photo Tip: Mid-morning is best for Lalaria, as the sun hits the white cliffs and makes the water look electric blue.

7. Right Here at Aphrodite Skiathos!
Don’t forget that some of the best memories are made right here. Our balconies at Megali Ammos face the sea, making them the perfect place to capture the first light of the morning or the soft colors of the evening with a coffee in hand.

Skiathos is all about having fun and being inspired by the island’s natural beauty. We can’t wait to see the photos you take during your stay with us!

See you at the beach!
